Mascari Warner Dinh Architects Mourns Passing of Simon (Ingemar) Warner, AIA
It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of our partner, Simon (Ingemar) Warner, AIA, after a decade-long battle with Ocular Melanoma. He had enjoyed several years of remission, but unfortunately around the new year his cancer returned. On behalf of our firm, we extend our deepest sympathies to Simon’s family during this very difficult time and express our enduring gratitude for his decades of leadership and inspiration.
“My heart is heavy in the loss of my friend and partner, after recently celebrating 30 wonderful years for our architecture firm. I will miss his tenacity and competitive Swedish spirit – whether for the next project we were pursuing, the office ping pong game, or a race down the mountain skiing, he always gave 110% effort,” stated partner Joseph Mascari.
Simon was a visionary leader who, above all, lived the company’s mission and core values with a true passion for healthcare architecture and an exceptional commitment to clients.
In the words of partner Thai Dinh, “Throughout his 30 years of practicing architecture, Simon always showed a positive attitude towards any challenges. His exemplary optimism shone on everyone around him, from clients and friends, to our staff. As a healthcare architect throughout his practice career, Simon always aimed to provide better built environments for patients and healthcare providers. During his last few weeks on bedrest, Simon kept reminding me to strongly continue pursuit of cancer center projects to help those who are less fortunate. He always believed that cancer will one day be cured and prolong our lives. As first a junior and now managing partner of the firm, I am very thankful to have learned so much from Simon over the years.”
Simon was born in Frimley, Surrey in the UK on Feb. 7, 1962. When he was a toddler, the family moved to Stockholm, Sweden. Swedish was his first language and he lived in Sweden until he was 17. After completing high school in Sweden, Simon attended college at the University of Arizona to pursue a degree in architecture. Upon graduating from college, he moved to San Diego where he began his career in healthcare architecture. Simon’s lifelong service to the firm, starting as a Job Captain in 1989, shaped the firm in immeasurable ways.
“Both Thai and I will carry Simon’s legacy into the future with leading the firm forward. We will always cherish the memories and friendship through the years; he was more than just a partner – he’s been a brother to us,” stated Joseph Mascari.
Simon was a voracious lover of life, avid mountain biker, and devoted father and friend. We all will miss his tremendous presence in our lives.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly suggests contributions be sent to the University of Pittsburgh (UPMC Hillman Cancer Center) to support Dr. Kammula’s cancer research at: UPMC Hillman Development, 5150 Centre Avenue, Suite 1B, Pittsburgh, PA 15232. Gifts may be contributed to “University of Pittsburgh,” noting in the memo line or in an accompanying letter that their gift is made in honor of Simon Warner and will support Dr. Kammula’s research.
