Palomar Health Crisis Stabilization Unit’s Unique Modular Construction

The new two-story, 6,700 square foot Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) building is to treat behavioral health patients on an outpatient basis and can accommodate 16 patients. The project will be certified as an OSHPD-3 building and was designed and detailed with full anti-ligature features such as specialty ceilings, door hardware and plumbing fixgtures.

The method of construction is unique in that the building was constructed off-site in a factory production warehouse in Whitley, Indiana, as 12 separate modules. The building modules were recently transported by truck across the country to the building site in Escondido, California. The modules are currently being craned into position on top of the site-constructed concrete foundation.

ACM panels will be used for the exterior skin of the building along with a matching glazing system inorder to complement the adjacent hospital building, blending with both the pattern and color. The project is scheduled for completion in Spring 2020. A few benefits of utilizing modulated construction is the speed to market, improved quality control and overall project cost savings.
