Torrance Memorial Medical Center – Triage and Emergency

Overview

Torrance Memorial Medical Center is in the final phase of a comprehensive renovation of the Emergency Department reception and triage areas within the East Wing Building, marking a major milestone in the development of California’s first two-story Emergency Department. The project includes a significantly expanded reception area with new patient check-in stations, modernized and enlarged triage bays, and infrastructure preparation for two new dedicated elevators that will serve the expanded Emergency Department. Construction is now officially underway on this landmark two-story facility, which is designed to enhance patient flow, capacity, and quality of care.

Renovation of the East Wing Building’s second level will add 10 new private treatment bays, 28 semi-private treatment bays, 8 new triage bays, and a dedicated X-ray room, along with vertical circulation exclusively supporting Emergency Department operations. This achievement represents the culmination of close collaboration among Emergency Department stakeholders, Torrance Memorial Medical Center leadership, Torrance Memorial Medical Center Foundation fundraising efforts, the design team’s diligence and creativity, and extensive agency coordination with HCAI, CDPH, and the City of Torrance. Together, these efforts will significantly expand emergency care capabilities and better serve the healthcare needs of the Torrance community. Construction completion is expected in Fall 2026.
