The project is a new 100,285 square foot, four-story, ground-up building constructed over three levels of below-grade parking. It is located at the corner of South Fair Oaks and Fillmore in Pasadena’s Heart District. The entry is set back from the primary corner, across from the main hospital campus edge, creating an open and welcoming pedestrian plaza. Vehicular drop-off is located parallel to the main lobby. Upon entering, visitors experience a grand stair within an open two-story space, where natural light spills into the interior and connects to a second-level terrace.
The terrace features perimeter gardens and a central seating area that captures views of the San Gabriel Mountains. Above, the terrace embraces the large, sweeping curve of the main façade, expressing an “open arm to the community.” Steering away from the rigid geometries often seen in the city, the project’s massing is fluid and natural in form. These design moves are not only aesthetically pleasing but also softening, calming, and highly functional.
The building features a steel structure and frame with a rainscreen façade composed of a variety of materials, including metal panel cladding, cementitious panels, and terra cotta tiles, along with an expansive curtain wall and glazing system. The use of open, breathable materials enhances airflow, daylighting, environmental control, and overall efficiency. A light, neutral color palette blends with the existing campus architecture and provides patients, families, and staff with a warm, inviting environment for healthcare services. The building’s character reflects a fresh, contemporary addition to the campus.
The state-of-the-art facility will truly become the heart of cancer care for the region, continuing Huntington and Cedars-Sinai’s award-winning expertise in patient-focused care. The project is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion in 2027.
